PREGINET to join CONNECT-Asia’s CONNECTivity
Today, the Philippine Research, Education and Government Information Network (PREGINET) remotely joins the CONNECT-Asia’s CONNECTivity Event to help in improving the visibility of National Research Networks (NRENs), and in increasing awareness on the benefits of mobilizing science knowledge for sustainable development through the use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs). This CONNECTivity seminar tagged as “Building a Green Society,” discusses the role of Communication, Culture, Education and Science Sectors. It connects experts worldwide, to share their vision in the creation of green societies. It uses higher research and education networks to deliver the topics, globally. PREGINET participates in Globe IPv6 Forum
In line with its efforts to promote Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6), the Philippine Research, Education and Government Information Network (PREGINET) participated in the Globe IPv6 Forum at the Globe Telecom Showroom, Valero St., Makati City on 10 November 2011.
PREGINET, eDOST-INFRA visit ILARRDEC
Last 02-04 November 2011, the eDOST-INFRA: Upgrading of DOST ICT Infrastructure and Interconnectivity Network Project Team (eDOST-INFRA Project) and the Philippine Research, Education and Government Information Network (PREGINET) visited the Ilocos Agriculture and Resources Research and Development Consortium (ILARRDEC).
The primary purpose of eDOST-INFRA Project Team and PREGINET in visiting ILARRDEC, was to check the interconnectivity of the Consortium. Said connectivity is a 4Mbps PREGINET link provided by the eDOST-INFRA Project, to be used by ILARRDEC in their research and development activities for one year.
VMMC and their big push for telehealth
Once again, the Veterans Memorial Medical Center (VMMC) had a telehealth session, entitled “Phacoemulsification Conference 2011,” which was assisted by the Philippine Research, Education and Government Information Network (PREGINET), last 26 October 2011 held at the VMMC Valdes Hall.
Said telehealth session was attended by different Metro Manila eye doctors who are practicing Phacoemulsification Cataract Surgery. The conference was also participated in by Dr. Shuji Shimizu of the Kyushu University Hospital in Japan, as well as Mr. Renato C. Doctor, Officer-in-Charge of the Philippine Heart Center‘s Hospital Information System.
PREGINET, eDOST-INFRA conduct IPv6 Training for DOST Network Administrators
In line with the promotion of Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6), the Philippine Research, Education and Government Information Network (PREGINET) and the eDOST-INFRA: Upgrading of DOST ICT Infrastructure and Interconnectivity Network Project conducted the Batch 1 of IPv6 Training for DOST Network Administrators on 26-27 October 2011 at the DOST Executive Lounge, Gen. Santos Ave., Bicutan, Taguig City.
PREGINET takes part in 2011 IGF
The Philippine Research, Education and Government Information Network (PREGINET) remotely participated in one of the 2011 Internet Governance Forum (IGF) workshops titled “The Role of Internet Exchange Points in Creating Internet Capacity and Bringing Autonomy to Developing Nations,” which was actually held at the United Nations Office in Nairobi, Kenya last 29 September 2011.
The main topics covered in said workshop were: 1) how Internet bandwidth, the capacity to route Internet traffic, is produced within Internet exchange points; 2) overview of the distribution of Internet exchange points globally; and 3) discussion of the role of Internet exchange points in making developing regions autonomous from the draining expense of international telecommunications carriage.
PREGINET beefs up UPLB and its 93rd Alumni Loyalty Day
The Philippine Research, Education and Government Information Network (PREGINET) boosted the University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB) and its Alumni Association’s (UPLBAA) 93rd Loyalty Day by providing a video streaming facility from 07 to 10 October 2011.
The celebration revolved on the theme “UPLB Leads Green” to support the University’s drive for the awareness and appreciation of the environment.
PREGINET to conduct IPv6 Training in CDO
On 12-13 October 2011, the Philippine Research, Education and Government Information Network (PREGINET) will conduct a Beginners Training Workshop on IPv6 at the Xavier University – Ateneo de Cagayan, Cagayan de Oro City.
Said activity is in line with the ongoing promotion of IPv6 adoption in the country, equipping Philippine institutions with proper technical know-how on the migration and deployment strategies of the new Internet Protocol. The two (2)-day workshop would be divided into two (2) areas: a) the IPv6 training; and b) IPv6 deployment.
PREGINET joins 9th Philippine Youth Congress in Information Technology
The Philippine Research, Education and Government Information Network (PREGINET) participated in the 9th Philippine Youth congress in Information Technology (Y4iT) last 20-24 September 2011 at the Ang Bahay ng Alumni, University of the Philippines (UP) Diliman.
Recognizing the importance of the Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6), the 9th Y4iT included IPv6 as one of the interesting topics to discuss. Mr. Bayani Benjamin R. Lara, PREGINET Technical Head, delivered an IPv6 talk on said event.
