Last 18 January 2012, the Central Bicol State University of Agriculture (CBSUA) expressed its interest in joining the COllaboration for Network-eNabled Education, Culture, Technology and science’s (CONNECT) Sustainability Science Course, realizing the importance of participating in online international lectures.
The Sustainability Science Course, which is delivered by the Hokkaido University in Japan, is part of UNESCO Jakarta’s Comprehensive Programme to Enhance Technology, Engineering and Science Education in Asia (COMPETENCE) Project, which aims to provide a sustainability education model among higher educational and governmental institutions. The course covers comprehensive sustainability framework on resource use (energy, food, materials, water, etc.), economy, human capital, institution and social capital.
“To enable the CBSUA to participate in said online course, the Philippine Research, Education and Government Information Network (PREGINET) sought the authorization of the Bicol Consortium for Agriculture Resources Research and Development (BCARRD) to use their videoconferencing facility,” said PREGINET Multimedia Engineer Alvin M. de Gracia.
University participants will receive subject course via video conference, whereas, other participants may follow the lecture via live streaming. The Sustainability Science Course will be broadcasted from January to February 2012. Below is the Philippine time schedule for the online lecture:
